Elspeth McKerrell
Hi, my name is Elspeth (Elsa), I live locally, in Carlton, and I enjoy walking and jogging around the Carlton Gardens area.
My two passions in life are STEM science and Social Justice.
I currently study my Bachelor of science, with a major in biotechnology. My dream is to one day open my own biotech lab, and run a team of brilliant scientists, working on cutting edge innovative biotechnologies, that reduce our dependance on pharmaceuticals.
I have always been curious about social justice, but the covid era has really cemented in my head the necessity for vulnerable people to have access to information, services and opportunities, where the individual is placed at the center, and facilitated to be the author of their own story and journey through life.
As a volunteer In the CAN Emergency Relief program, due to the need to change our service delivery over the Covid era, we were delivering meals and ER supplies to the Carlton housing estate and surrounding residents.
This afforded me the opportunity to connect with various pockets of the Carlton community, and hear about their frustrations and concerns. As a board member, I plan to collaborate with the community, and work to negate many of the highlighted concerns that plague the Carlton housing residents.
Looking forward to making a difference!
